When I arrived at Steveston, I walked around and had a short photo walk. Nothing was really interesting so I thought I would just go lounge at Rocanini.
Upon reaching the counter, I asked for their specialty. They suggested their roasted coffee (which I have read is good) but unfortunately, I am picky with my coffee and thought not to take the risk today. I asked for their tea specialties and they recommended the pear and plum tea. I love it. It's not as strong as the usual teas I get, and it doesn't have that bitter aftertaste from the tea leaves. The tea bag is hand stuffed, not like those you get from Starbucks or Tim Horton's that come in a box. Point Rocanini.
While I am here, I thought of trying their pastries. The food they serve vary from small pastry bars to croissants to sandwiches. Not so wide of a selection. I got the Apricot Pie. It was more of a danish than a pie if you ask me, but nonetheless, I liked it. It had a right sweetness to the custard which complemented the sourness of the mid-dried apricots on top. Plus for something that costs only about $4.00, I think you get more than what you pay for. Also, their cheesecake looks divine.
What I am loving the most about this coffee shop is the place itself. Its minimalistic interior (white walls, wooden tables) gives it a very relaxing feel. Plus, the artworks that hang on the wall don't only add colour to the whole place, but also gives it attitude. Hip but not hipster. It's almost like a small museum. Only, here you are allowed to eat, drink and enjoy free wifi as long as you want. Look, they haven't kicked me out yet. Oh, and I don't know if this should matter but the music being played in any coffee shops says a lot about them. Unlike the usual Starbucks Coffee that plays blues or jazz, or the lame coffee shops that play radio songs, they play a lot of indie pop which I very much enjoy. Not even close to hipsters. Good job. Point Rocanini.
(Not much decent photos because there were people and I didn't want them to think I was spying)
Next time you walk by No. 1 Road and Moncton Street and are looking for a place to just chill, don't be afraid to walk in.
