On Clean Eating and Happiness

Clean eating feels so normal now and I am happy that it does. I mean, it has to.. it's been four months since I started. If you don't know why I'm "clean eating" in the first place, it's a simple story really. I decided to get rid of my terrible eating habits because of two reasons: a) my mom had surgery because of gallstones and that made me paranoid, b) I went up to 125 lbs. when my average is around 115-118 and that made me even more paranoid. And so, since then, weekday mornings have been all about smoothies and quinoa, baked chicken breasts and greens. But to not forget the joy of binge-eating, I eat all-out on weekends (starting Friday evening). While I don't exercise because I am medically unable to, I do walk during every possible chance I get.

Some people will say that I am cray cray for doing what I do. I am going to tell you that the cray works. I suggest clean eating to those who want to be lighter on their feet, feel cleaner, A LOT healthier and happier, and yes, lose weight. I guess I can say that I am on a calorie-restriction diet, but that's not to be mistaken for fasting. I eat just as much, but I carefully choose what I eat, and what I put in my food.

These foods have become staple:

  • quinoa
  • blueberries
  • spinach
  • chicken breast
  • paprika
  • flax seeds
  • 0%/Greek yogurt
  • almond milk
  • himalayan pink salt
  • olive oil
I don't have a set meal-plan to suggest to anyone but Googling works fine. People will say different things, so I suggest looking for one with the most positive feedback. Also, I am currently on a 2-day cleanse, which can be found here. I am on my second day and the only difference it has with my regular food intake is that I don't eat quinoa. When you start to feel hungry, opt for water or lemon-infused water.

It's not as bad as it seems, trust me. I am a total foodie and I am telling you, it's quite fun. Eat clean on weekdays, look forward to the weekend where you can eat, eat, eat whatever you want.

P.S. Even on weekdays, if you feel like eating chips, ice cream, pop, etc, go for it. Just know what you're getting yourself into, and make up for it if you want. I still say your happiness is above everything else. Clean eating is simply an alternative.
